OMG! This is simultaneously the greatest and worst thing ever!

Greatest because I’ve wondered for a long time just what a modern F1 car could do on the old Ring. I mean it’s nearly 30 years since the last F1 car had a lap. The current lap record is held by a Radical, for those who don’t know that basically a Rollerskate with a very well tuned motorbike engine. :)

Worst because, well lets face it Nick Heidfield ain’t exactly renowned for pushing limits, hell his change of teammate midway through last season saw him improve dramatically, because his new team mate was pushing him harder than Jaques Villeneuve ever did. That and the rather disappointing quote at the end of the article are making me think that Nicky ain’t gonna even try. I really hope I’m wrong.

In fact if I were in Nick’s shoes I’d be thinking “well I’m never gonna beat Schuey’s records but I could be the last F1 driver to set a Lap record around the Nordschleife.” I’m calling you out Nick, if you’ve got a pair, to hell with doing a demo lap for the masses, make a mark on history and go for it. Go on, I dare you! :D

Before the F1 new season gets underway it’s worth mentioning that there has been a few last minute changes to the rules, thankfully Grandprix.com has it covered, I think the new tyre rule might backfire (why save the softer tyre?) but we’ll all know after Saturday night/sunday morning’s race.

Over on ITV-F1 they’re talking about Kimi being outpaced by Massa in testing, that could get interesting.

Meanwhile it was announced recently that David Richards and some buddies have bought Aston Martin. Why anyone would want to sell that brand I don’t know but I’m very curious to see what will happen there.

Other things that have caught my eye recently were the report that Melbourne was considering a night race. That would certainly make things interesting for the stewards! And that Bernie seems to think that the points system needs a bit of a change, I’m inclined to agree with his thinking, but I’d love to here what other’s have to say.

The 2007 F1 Grand Prix season begins tonight with the first practice session of the new season. I’m not going to stay up for it, but I have set it to record on the Media Centre, so, I’ll be watching that while I have breakfast in the morning.

Then tomorrow night I’ll be staying up for qualifying. Saturday being Paddy’s day and the race being that night, I’m really glad that Monday is a holy day. I pray I can recover, before Tuesday. :)

Hopefully, I’ll find a minute or two over the weekend to post a little more as well.

Tonight I did a little bit of a clean and a dust, around my blog. So far I’ve discovered, thanks to a recent flurry of new links here (from other blogs), Technorati have me ranked in the top million bloggers! :D I’m stunned that this could have happened. With my blogs technical issues and ever changing themes I sometimes think people are just stopping in to watch the train wreck that is my blog, if you know what I mean. ;) I guess Grannymar’s nominations to the Irish Blog Awards and interaction with Grandad and Granny has had a ripple effect. :)

I have finally fixed my analytics issue’s, but some how lost the sidebars off the front page. They seem to be on most other pages? go figure. I’ll have to accost one of my co-workers and seek some sagely advice tomorrow. :)

My Akismet Plugin tells me that it’s captured 2,999 spam comments, Fantastic! :D Recently though, I had a spate of spam trackbracks thankfully though that seems to have stopped. Have any other WordPress users had this problem, I wonder?

Hope you have a great day, Grannymar.

On a side note, while looking for a picture on Google images for this post and my first search for “Happy Birthday Grannymar” yielded these results. I’m shocked and surprised that Google knows me this well but what use is a a search engine to me when it shows me so many images on my own blog? :)
