Woot! My Sweetie got back from her business trip on saturday, finally. God I missed her, not just because she is the light in an otherwise bleak existence but also because she was carrying my “newsed” laptop home with her from the US, where it had been delivered to a friend of ours (Thanks Harold) after winning the ebay auction.
I am now the proud owner of a Sony Vaio PCG-N505VE possibly the most perfect laptop ever assembled! It’s small, compact, light, retro enough to have cred, while recent enough to do most of what I want and stylish enough to give even the mightiest of Apple fanboy’s Powerbook a run for its money :) and all this despite being a Sony product.

This isn’t my first post to be written on it, but it is the first to be published. The first post written should be available on friday as part of my new series of regular features, but more on that in another post.

There were a couple of things that “the old girl” needed, so a new battery is on order (first one to make a wise crack about Sony laptop batteries gets a slap ;) ) until that’s delivered I’m tied to the wall socket, even though I did manage to pick up a wireless card for it, in of all places, Tesco. Boy was that a surprise a reasonable brand (Buffalo) for just a smidge under €40 while the local PC World’s most cost effective option was €70!

Now I could wax lyrical for days about the evil, profiteering of IT retailers but I never I’d see the day when a grocery chain would out do an IT retailer at their own game, tis a sad sad day for IT retailers everywhere…

Ok, so this guy Dave Winer, he seems to be very up on the whole mobile web stuff. What with yomoblog.com and these rivers of news things, he seems to be the only person in the world that’s actually pushing mobile internet in a creative and, well let’s face it, innovative way, or am I mistaken, do you know of any other interesting idea’s in this area? Let me know if you do, thats what the comments field is for ;)

*edit* seems I wasn’t giving Dave the credit he deserves. I just read his “about” page so it’s only fair that I thank him for RSS :D

Over the last 12 month’s or so, I’ve made a few changes to my Lifestyle, the big one being that I quit smoking. I’m not going to waste valuable words telling people the benefits this has brought except to say to anyone who is a smoker, do it! everything you have heard benefits wise, is true. :)

The downside for me, to quitting, was that I piled on weight. Rather than actually quitting I accidently managed to do whats called “Drug substitution” I simply switched my disease from nicotine addiction to sugar addiction. Wtf? Yup that’s how my Doctor explained it to me when I started the process that I’m on now.

Part of this process is my excersize regime and I would not have been able to keep that going without my MP3 player, it’s a simple basic 128mb flash unit but it allows me to totally zone out when I’m in the gym.

Now I thought that I was a bit unusual in this but if I am then Sony has just designed a MP3 player just for me. It adjusts the music to the rythm of your workout, counts steps and calories for you, and even works out distance covered.

Is all this good stuff enough to make me forget what Sony thinks of there customers and want one?

Unfortunatly not, Sony you need to seriously sort out your public image. Your corporate conduct in the last 12 month’s is contemptable the arrogence that you now address your customers with needs a slap down in the worst possible way. It’s a shame really cause you guys can still make some great products.

Ok, before you click the link, It’s only fair to warn you that the topic of this Gizmodo post has to do with prison in-mates hiding things, so you have been warned! The comments are hilarious though.

Having lived in Ireland for so long, I don’t ever remember seeing as many Dragonflies as I have since the Job moved office in to Parkwest last year.

These aren’t your regular run of the mile Dragonflies either, some of them are freakishly large. like this one I snapped with the Camera phone this morning on my way into the office. Apologies for the image quality, now I know why photographers never go anywhere without a good camera ;)
