I read a post today from Conor and I started to type a comment. For the first time in ages I couldn’t stop typing and before I knew what happened I’d written a blog post (more on that later)
But this lead to the question what made it a blog post and not a comment? so here’s what makes a Blog post for me at least…
Something that is too long for most Social media platforms
Something that loses its meaning when edited to “fit” on Social media
Something that I know I want to record for myself
Something that I want others to know I am the source of
Something that I want to share with others because it brightened my day or stimulated by mind
I’m certain every post I’ve written doesn’t fall into these categories, there are probably some that don’t even fall into any, but I’m not going to go back and update posts or the like. No, I’m going to boldly push forward with these new-found ideals until such time as they don’t suit me anymore or I forget about it.
Anyways, thanks to Conor for stimulating my brain and making me think bigger than a paragraph for the first time in a while. Oh and I did write that post, it just needs a little editing and such but it’ll be along shortly…
Anyhow, how to start back? There is the old reliable ‘what have I been doing?’ format or the ‘ignore it and pretend it never happened?’ format (Well it’s too late for that one now) or how about the ‘come clean with the reason you haven’t been blogging’ format.
Well the last one’s easy, I didn’t feel like it. :p and that’s because a lot has happened in my life since last August. I guess that brings me into the ‘what have I been doing’ format but not for long.
So what have I been doing?
August was spent working, September was spent travelling all over Europe, October was spent visiting mum, November didn’t see an improvement for mum and she passed away peacefully at home on the 11th, December saw a Christmas of adjustment, January until now was in general a bit quiet and mostly about connecting with some old friends online, getting ready for the move into our new home, oh and I went to Creative Camp.
So am I likely to change my posting schedule? Well, let’s just wait and see
I have finally fixed my analytics issue’s, but some how lost the sidebars off the front page. They seem to be on most other pages? go figure. I’ll have to accost one of my co-workers and seek some sagely advice tomorrow.
My Akismet Plugin tells me that it’s captured 2,999 spam comments, Fantastic! Recently though, I had a spate of spam trackbracks thankfully though that seems to have stopped. Have any other WordPress users had this problem, I wonder?
Unfortunately, Grannymar came away empty handed although, Twenty’s post today gave her a big grin and a link so I think that made up for it. Both her and Ellybabes managed to meet Twenty himself. I managed to miss the opportunity and held a reverent distance, partly because I was worried I might get a beatin’ but mostly cause I enjoy his blog and thought that maybe speaking with him might in some way might shatter that illusion. If you have any idea at all what I mean by that.
The other thing I would like to mention, and I know loads of people have already blogged this today, but it deserves the attention. Bernie Goldbach won ‘The best Contribution to the irish blogosphere’ And without a second thought thanked everyone, but refused to accept it as it should have been awarded to Damien. Cue the first of two, very deserved, standing ovations for Damien Mulley during the evening. My hats off to you Bernie, not everyone would do the same in your position.
My thanks to the organisers for a great evening and I’m looking forward to next years event already, who knows there could be a horrific blogging related incident that wipes out all the good bloggers so the likes of me has a chance.
